Alabama

State Law:

Raw milk sales are outlawed in Alabama, however there's no law against herd-shares , furthermore raw milk can be sold and  labeled as "pet food" with a feed license.

Alabama State Code

Options for Producers:

  1. Herd-shares
  2. Pet Feed License

Is a PMA recommended?

Personally, we wouldn't  bother forming a PMA in Alabama nor establishing a herd-share in Alabama. Play their game and obtain a commercial pet feed license.  Why? Look at the history of Grade A dairies and what has happened the past few years. Big Dairy farms like Borden and Prairie Farms have closed their doors in the state. Makes you wonder why? That is why we suggest any farm who wants to sell their raw milk to do so under the states pet food license. Bottom line, we don't want any farm or producer to get into any legal trouble by their state.

Alabama Pet Feed License:

Alabama's pet feed license fees are charged per tonnage..

1 gallon of milk weighs 8.6 gallons. 250 tons of milk equals approximately 58,140 gallons of milk. Therefore, you can sell up to 58,140 gallons of raw milk as pet food a year for a $45.00 license fee.

Alabama requires your pet food label to have a barcode, here is a free bacode generator.
